What Is a Dental Crown?
A crown covers and restores more of a tooth than a filling. It may be considered when a tooth is heavily filled, cracked, worn, weakened after root canal treatment or cannot be predictably repaired with a smaller restoration.
What Is a Dental Bridge?
A fixed dental bridge replaces a selected missing-tooth gap with a false tooth supported by neighbouring teeth or, in some plans, implants. Preparing natural support teeth is irreversible, so removable dentures, implants or leaving the space may also need consideration.

Temporary Crowns and Bridges
A temporary restoration protects prepared teeth while the final restoration is made. It may feel or look different from the final result. Avoid very hard or sticky foods, clean as instructed and call the clinic if the temporary becomes loose, breaks or causes persistent discomfort.
Shade, Appearance and Limitations
The team can discuss shade and shape, but an exact match or a particular cosmetic result cannot be guaranteed. Natural teeth, gums and existing restorations change over time, and laboratory materials have limitations.
Risks and Alternatives
Risks can include sensitivity, pain, gum irritation, decay at the margins, chipping, loosening, bite discomfort, root canal treatment or replacement. A supporting tooth can fracture or lose vitality. Alternatives may include a filling or onlay, extraction, implant, removable denture, orthodontic space management or no treatment, depending on the case.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Crowns and bridges need daily brushing and gumline cleaning. A bridge also needs cleaning underneath with floss threaders, interdental brushes or another aid recommended by the dentist. Regular reviews help monitor the restoration, supporting teeth and gums.
