A General Consultation First
The appointment begins with your reason for attending, medical history, medicines, allergies, previous care and any relevant symptoms. The clinician can explain the limits of the consultation and whether another health practitioner would be better placed to assess the concern.
What to Bring
Bring an up-to-date medicines list and details of relevant medical conditions, allergies, previous procedures or reactions. If another practitioner is already managing the concern, bring any information they have asked you to share.
Assessment, Advice and Referral
Any assessment or advice depends on the concern and the clinician’s professional scope. No treatment is automatically recommended. The appropriate outcome may be general information, monitoring, further records, review by your GP or referral to another suitably qualified practitioner.
Make an Informed Decision
You should have time to ask questions and understand any proposed next step, material risks, alternatives, expected limitations, fees and follow-up. You can defer a decision, choose no treatment or seek another professional opinion.
