Keeping your kid's teeth strong!

As most of our Christmas and New Years festivities come to a close, there is no better time to review our oral care routines and see if there is anything we need to change. This is particularly important for our kids, after all of the yummy holiday treats they may have been having!

Keeping your kids teeth healthy and strong is fundamental part of their health that sometimes gets forgotten. Luckily our team here at Relax Dental and Facial Care have curated a few tips to help children’s teeth healthy!

Maintain a healthy diet

Ensuring that your child has a balanced diet helps to protect your children’s teeth against decay. This involves limiting sugar intake and making sure your child has lots of calcium rich foods in their diet!

Have regular dental appointments

It is recommended that people sees the dentist every 6 months for a regular checkup and clean. For your children this the growth of their first tooth is often a good indication of when it is time for their first dental appointment. Regular appointments help to optimise your child's dental health, allowing for early detection of any issues as well as preventive treatments such as fissure sealants which can be done.

Remember that it is important for parents to take initiative in the first steps of their children's oral care routine. For children under the age of 3, this involves teaching them how much toothpaste to use as well as the correct techniques to use. Experts recommend brushing twice a day for at least 2 minutes each time for an effective clean.

But the most important tip we can offer parents is to be a good role model! Children often like to imitate others around them, so make sure to demonstrate good oral care habits for them to copy. Perhaps brush and floss with them to incorporate it into your family’s daily routine, rather than treating it like a chore for your children.
