Check Up, Clean and Polish

Cleaning and Scaling

A clean and healthy mouth not only looks better, but will help keep your breath fresh and help you extend the longevity of your natural teeth.

Professional cleaning removes the deposits of tartar that build up on the teeth that you may not be able to remove by simply brushing your teeth at home. This slows the progress of gum disease and will done by our dentist at our Blackburn Dental and Facial Aesthetic Clinic.

The cleaning and scaling procedure is painless for most people. If you experience any form of discomfort, we can apply anaesthetic that numb the area. The dentist at our Blackburn Dental and Facial Aesthetic Clinic cares about making your every visit as comfortable and easy as it can be. So please, at the time of your appointment, let us know of any current or previous sensitivities you may have. That way the dentist carefully tailors your dental treatment appropriately.

Don’t forget - professional cleaning is not a replacement for good oral and dental hygiene habits at home. Regular brushing and flossing- combined with a controlled intake of sugar- are the best preventative measures against dental and gum disease. This, along with regular professional cleaning done by our dentist, sets you up for your best chance for a lifetime of healthy and worry free teeth.

We recommend regular dentist check-ups at least every six months. However, some people may need to visit the dentist more regularly than this. This might be the case for you if you have gum disease, a genetic predisposition for plaque build-up or cavities, or a weakened immune system. Other factors such as stress and various illnesses can also cause changes in the mouth or leave you more vulnerable to infection which will require more frequent visits to the dentist.

Full Mouth Examination

When you visit our Blackburn Dental Clinic for an examination, our dentist will check every tooth, review previous dental work, and take a good look at the soft tissue area.

We will also check for:

  • Any signs of oral cancer or other diseases

  • Signs of tooth decay

  • Other potential problems you might not see or feel

  • Gum disease

  • Teeth grinding

  • Jaw problems

The dentist will also assist in educating or answering any questions you might have about caring for your teeth, gums and home care. If required, our dentist will make recommendations for further treatment.

To assist in our check-up at our Blackburn Dental and Facial Aesthetic Clinic, our dentist use a high quality intra-oral camera to accurately photograph and see what’s going on in your mouth. This means we will be well informed if there are any issues or concerns to discuss.

Your exam may also include X-rays which will be completed using our state-of-the-art digital X-ray equipment. In determining how frequently you should be taking X-rays, we will consider your clinical examination, dental history, and risk for developing cavities.

You can expect this appointment to take around 45-60 minutes.
