Keep your teeth safe this holiday season!

With Christmas quickly approaching, the last thing anyone needs to add to their schedule is a dental emergency. While some incidents may be completely accidental and unpredictable, there are some things we can do to lower the risk!

Here are some of our top tips for keeping your teeth safe and healthy:

1. Maintain your oral hygiene routine

With all the good food we are eating its more important than ever to brush and floss properly. An effective dental routine includes brushing for two minutes twice a day with a soft bristled brush and flossing between the teeth at least once a day.

2. Drink more water

Alcohol and fizzy drinks are often present at holiday parties and family gatherings, however excess consumption of these beverages can cause staining and dental cavities. In addition to this, excessive alcohol intake can lead to increased risk of trips and falls which could damage teeth. To minimise these risks, make sure you are drinking enough water. This will help to wash away food particles and dilute acids on the teeth. Experts recommend drinking 2-3 litres of water a day!

3. Buy a pair of scissors

This might sound silly but with all the present wrapping this will be a necessary piece of stationary. Avoid the temptation of tearing sticky tape with your teeth or opening any kind of packaging as this can lead to broken teeth, crowns or dentures. This rule also applies to the little ones! With all the excitement and adrenaline that comes with presents, make sure they are not opening any boxes or gifts with their teeth or mouths.

Follow these tips to ensure that you have your best smile ready for the new year!
