What are Veneers?

A veneer is a thin piece of material used to recreate the natural look of teeth. The two main materials used for veneers are composite and porcelain. These can provide strength and resilience comparable to your natural tooth enamel and are custom made to fit the contours of your teeth. This will give your veneers a natural look to boost the appearance of your teeth and overall smile!

Veneers are often a treatment of interest for those with dark stained, yellow, crooked or short teeth. The benefit of veneers is that they are stain resistant and have the appearance of natural teeth. However it is important to consult with your dentist first as veneers may not always be recommended. For instance, if you heavily grind their teeth, this can damage your veneers.

Porcelain veneers are very durable and last for many years with proper care and regular dental checkups. Impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent off to a lab for your porcelain veneers to be made. This process takes slightly longer than composite veneers which are made onsite and completed in one visit. Composite veneers applied one layer at a time to slowly cover the tooth. The dentist will shape and cure and shape each layer to achieve the final veneer. The dentist can discuss the options with you to decide which is most suitable.

Once you complete the process of getting your veneers, it is important to take good care of them! Care for them as you would your regular teeth. This means brushing and flossing daily using a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste and limiting staining foods and drinks.
